Faith in the Flesh Pt II

In a world where religion is too often used to divide us, how can we return to spirituality as a path back to our hearts and shared humanity?

Faith in the Flesh is a three-part series at the intersection of healing, theology, and spiritual reclamation, co-created by Sweetgum Manor and The Hive.

What must we leave behind to be spiritually free?
Building on our first gathering’s call to reclaim the sacred within our bodies, Leaving the Plantation invites us to face the systems—religious, racial, and cultural—that have distorted that holiness, and to imagine what comes after them.
Theologian Dr. Adam Clark, healer La Shanda Sugg, and minister-poet D. Lamar Hughes, moderated by Troy Bronsink, draw on Black Liberation and Womanist Theology to explore how we can release domination-based spirituality and return to what liberates and connects us.
You’ll leave with renewed courage, language, and community for your own path toward embodied spiritual freedom.

What happens when we reclaim power not as dominance, but as divine presence?
In our final gathering, we welcome Leslie Hershberger—master teacher of contemplative spirituality and the Enneagram—alongside D. Lamar Hughes, Chris LaRue, and Troy Bronsink, moderated by Abigail Allen.
Together, they’ll explore how reclaiming mystics and mothers, engaging Divine Feminine archetypes, and confronting what we call the “king wound” can open new pathways to presence, creativity, and spiritual wholeness.
As we close the Faith in the Flesh series, we turn toward renewal: deconstructing submission-based theologies to restore spiritual authority to the inner self and reclaim the sacred within.
