The Sweetgum Manor
Foundation

Our Mission

To expand our reach and programs to those who need it most—nonprofit professionals, artists, youth, and the surrounding Avondale community—by providing access to restorative experiences, healing practices, and connection.

What We Offer

  • Evidence-based wellness experiences (breath work, yoga, sound baths, emotional resilience practices)

  • Nature-immersive programming for rest, reflection, and clarity

  • Retreats for nonprofit teams, corporate teams, women’s groups, etc.

  • Facilities designed for impact: yoga room, pool, tennis court, two full kitchens, multiple light-filled breakout rooms (indoor and outdoor), full A/V capabilities

Why It Matters

Burnout: 70% of nonprofit leaders experience it.

1 in 4 adults face mental health challenges; nearly 1 in 2 will in their lifetime, with women carrying a disproportionate amount of emotional labor.

Connection heals: Loneliness carries health risks comparable to smoking 15 cigarettes a day.

Rest works: Just minutes of meditation, or mindful pause and time in nature can cut stress and health costs by ~25%.

Kids need nature + offline time: Lack of green space raises anxiety and depression risk, while reducing screen time to ~3 hours/week boosts mental health and prosocial behavior in just two weeks.

What We’re Seeking

  • Funding for Operational Support / Core Capacity Building & Infrastructure

  • Enhancements such as:

  • Staff to run retreats (coordinator, facilitators, support team)

  • Program development + delivery

  • Admin time for partnerships and reporting

  • Minor repairs or upgrades to enhance accessibility, safety, or usability.
